FROM AND TO EAST BALI
Demand willing, Scoot runs two daily services between Padang Bai and Jungutbatu, Lem-
bongan. They currently leave the former at 9.30am and 1.30pm and the latter at 8am and
12.30pm (Rp350,000/Rp550,000 one-way/return).
GETTING AROUND
By bike or motorbike Not necessary around the villages but a good bet around the island -
set off in a clockwise direction to avoid a killer climb south of Jungutbatu if cycling. The road
is tarmac, although very broken in places. Both bikes and motorbikes can be rented through
your accommodation.
On foot None of the best west-coast beaches are more than 90min from Jungutbatu.
By pick-up Some isolated restaurants in the south offer free transport with a reservation.
ACTIVITIES
Massage Su B ( 0813 3838 9062; 10am-9pm), behind the shore at the south end of Jungut-
batu, is the expats' tip for the best massage on the island - he or his wife offer aromatherapy
massage and reflexology (Rp90,000/hr).
Surfing Surfing around Nusa Lembongan is famously challenging. The best months for surf-
ing are from May to September when southeast winds blow offshore. The breaks peel off
the reef before Jungutbatu - from south to north: Playgrounds (the most forgiving break);
the well-named, heavy Lacerations; and Shipwrecks. You can paddle out the 400m or rent a
boat (around Rp50,000/Rp70,000 one-way/return). Board rental is available on the seafront
at Jungutbatu and costs around Rp90,000/2hr; Monkey Surfing ( 0821 4614 7683, mon-
keysurfing.com ) offers the best selection and can provide lessons.
