Creating the Fuselage
You can use many different modeling approaches to build the fuselage. For now,
follow these steps to create the fuselage using a primitive cylinder.
1. In the Front viewport, draw a cylinder from top to bottom, approximately
the length of the fuselage. You can view your progress in the Left viewport.
2. Right-click on the cylinder and set the Absolute values in X, Y, and Z to 0.
This places the cylinder on the world origin and centers it. Press the Z key
to frame the plane in the viewport.
3. On the Modify tab in the Parameters rollout, set the Height Segments to 10,
the Cap Segments to 1, and the Sides to 18. This is a good place to start. You
will be editing these as you go. If you change the Left viewport to Wireframe,
you can view the segments and polygons that make up the cylinder.
4. Continue to move and scale the cylinder until you have an element that
looks like Figure 4.2
5. In the Name and Color rollout, type fuselage .
Now would be a good time to save your project. Press Ctrl+S to save the scene.
Figure 4.2 Now you have the cylinder with Height Segments of 10,
Cap Segments of 1, and Sides of 16.
