Creating the Radiator Housing
To create the radiator housing, you will use a version of the extrude function called
Inset. The most common way of extruding faces is to use the Extrude button.
However, in this case it creates some unwanted geometry.
1. Using the pattern for your guide and switching to Polygon subobject mode,
select the three faces in the area of the radiator housing (see Figure 4.22).
Figure 4.22 Select the polygons.
2. Right-click on the model and choose Convert to, Convert to Editable Poly
from the menu (see Figure 4.23). (This is different than using Convert to,
Convert to Editable Mesh, and it brings up different commands in the
Command Panel.) Under the Edit Polygons rollout in the Command Panel,
find the Inset button and click on the submenu button to the right of it.
This will bring up another submenu.
3. Set the Inset amount to 0 and select Apply. Using the Move tool, move the
newly created polys downward (see Figure 4.24). It is also beneficial to
switch to Shaded mode during this phase, if you so desire.
