requires further validation. Several significant challenges remain in order to establish
zebrafish as a predictive animal model for neurotoxicity, including determining
(1) sensitivity and susceptibility of zebrafish to specific compounds and general
compound classes compared to mammalian models and humans; (2) comparability of
ADME in zebrafish using delivery in fish water to ADME in humans using other
routes of administration; and (3) role of BBB, shown to be present in zebrafish by 3dpf
(McGrath and Li, 2008).
