FIGURE 11.3: Principle of atlas-based MR-AC. The atlas consists of match-
ing MR-CT image volumes that can be generated from patients. For a specific
patient, the atlas MR image (top left) is co-registered to the MR image volume
of the patient (bottom left). This transformation is then applied to the cor-
responding CT-atlas, thus generating an attenuation image (i.e., pseudo-CT)
that matches the patient anatomy.
