In-Depth Information
Isan
Often overlooked by tourists since it has no parties or beaches, Isan is a large region of east-
ern Thailand dominated by agriculture and natural scenery. Known for its grasslands Isan
can be a great way to get far off of the tourist trail, you won't see many foreigners in this
region. Locally Thai is taught and understood but the language most used is Isan, similar to
languages spoken in neighboring Laos.
If you are passing through Isan to head to Laos then take a day to stop in Ubon Ratchathani,
known locally as Ubon. Here you will find temples and a nice park to visit as you cross the
eastern part of Thailand.
