differences is to build a simple
project with a few layers, and then
experiment with each mode -
mixing and matching various layers
and modes. However, to speed
things along, let's briefly discuss
some of the more commonly used
modes, and how they pertain to our
WONK TV design and your future
projects.
Eight Blending Mode Groups
When selecting a layer's mode, a
long pop-up menu opens offering
eight groups of
modes where each
group contains
several modes that
are stylistically
associated with each
other. The eight
groups are listed
below, and one
example from each
group is displayed
on the following page.
Users of Photoshop (or most paint programs) will recognize many of these
modes.
A
Solid Mix - the top group is the simplest mode because pixels have no
alteration effect to layers beneath; the contents obscure all layers
unless opacity is adjusted.
B
Subtractive Mix - the second group transfers and blends their darker
pixels' values to layers beneath; this is similar to mixing color inks
