Fast Previews - OpenGL Preview
As you drag layers around the screen, notice in the
lower right of the options bar (bottom edge of the
Composition Window) the Fast Previews button may
change color to green. This indicates that the Comp
Window is in OpenGL mode. This is used to
accelerate the responsiveness of layer manipulation
and interactivity.
Clicking open the Fast Previews button menu will
offer you several options how the Composition
Window reacts to your input. If you have a good
OpenGL video card, the default selection will
provide superior performance. If you do not have a
fast card, or you feel that the OpenGL mode is
sluggish in responding to your input, you should select Adaptive Resolution. In
this mode, when layers are moved, the Composition Window temporarily alters
the quality setting (as preset in the Preferences), degrading the overall image -
sacrificing quality for speed.
There are times where you'll want to set the Fast Previews to 'Off'. If you have a
powerful enough computer, 'Off' may not cause any significant degradation of
speed, allowing you more precise adjustments to your project.
Drag and Drop Construction
Just as in the Timeline Window, you can add layers directly to the Comp
Window via drag and drop. In the Project Window, select WONK Logo
Master.ai then drag it, but don't release, into the Comp Window. As you
bring the file into the Comp Window you'll discover that the file is
represented as a simple bounding box with an 'X' across the center. Drag the
file toward the center of the window and watch as it snaps to the Comp
Window's center. Likewise, dragging the file to any window edge will snap the
bounding box's adjacent edge to the window edge.
Place the file to snap at the center of the Comp Window then release it. Just as
when dragging files into the Timeline Window, wherever the CTI is pointing to
