In-Depth Information
Replace in the Project Window has even more functionality: Comps can replace
other Precomps within Comps, Footage can replace Precomps within Comps.
Replace Footage - Permanent Drag and Replace
You'll often discover the need to completely replace one Project Window resource
for another completely different (or simply updated) resource. For this, use the
Project Window's Replace Footage
(Ctrl
H) function. You can also access
this by right-clicking on the file then
selecting
Replace Footage
File . . . .
This is a more permanent version of the
Drag and Replace Across Multiple
Comps, and it can help reduce clutter in
the Project Window.
Replace Footage - Make Replacement Comp
Another instance where Replace Footage
becomes very productive: you need to
apply some adjustments, masking and/or
effects to a *.PSD file that's used
throughout all Comps in your project. For
this, you have to use the right-click sub-
menu pop-up (
With Layered Comp ) on the file in need
of changing. This option creates a new Precomp using the selected Photoshop
file as its reference (similar to the Precomping method: 'Leave all attributes . . .')
and replaces all instances of the selected file across your project. The only
catches to this option are: the Comp's duration might be set to the last applied
Comp Duration used (not a very big issue since all you have to do is change
the replacement Comp's duration (Ctrl
Replace Footage
K) to the longest length you
encounter in the project), and secondly, it only works on Photoshop files.
3
Right-click on GS.psd and select
Replace Footage
With Layered
Comp.
4
In the Timeline, take note of the duration change and what the Comp
should be set to.
