In-Depth Information
NST1; A. thaliana
Expressed in IF of stems and SX of
hypocotyls. OE induces ectopic
thickening of SW. DR induces anther
dehiscence defect due to loss of SW
thickening in endothecium.
Positive regulator of SW thickening in
various tissues. Upregulates genes
involved in SW synthesis.
Mitsuda et al. (2005,
2007)
NST2; A. thaliana
Expressed specially in anther walls and
pollen grains. OE induces ectopic
thickening of SW. DR induces anther
dehiscence defect.
Positive regulator of SW thickening in
various tissues. Upregulates genes
involved in SW synthesis.
Mitsuda et al. (2005)
SND1/ANAC012/NST3;
A. thaliana
Expressed mainly in IF of stems and SX of
hypocotyls. OE induces ectopic SW
thickenings in various tissues.
Positive regulator of SW thickening in
various tissues. Upregulates genes
involved in SW synthesis.

SND2; A. thaliana,
Eucalyptus
Preferentially expressed in xylem. OE
produces upregulation of CesA8, genes
associated with cellulose, xylan, mannan
and lignin polymerization. Minor
alteration in SW chemistry.
Regulation of cellulose and
hemicellulose biosynthetic genes in
addition to those involved in lignin
polymerization and signalling.
Hussey et al. (2011)
SND3; A. thaliana
High level of expression in IF and xylem
cells. DR significantly reduced SW
thickening in fibre cells. OE increases SW
thickening in fibres.
Positive regulator of SW biosynthesis.
Induces SW biosynthetic genes. It is
a direct target of SND1, NST1,
NST2 and VND6 and VND7.
Zhong et al. (2008)
VND6; A. thaliana
Restricted to the central metaxylem vessels
in the middle of the root. DR displayed
defects in growth and vessel formation in
the roots. OE repressed central
metaxylem vessel formation.
Transdifferentiates various types of
cells into xylem vessel elements.
Upregulates many genes involved in
xylem vessel differentiation such as
SW biosynthesis and programmed
cell death.
