Writes Out/Sec
value.

Note:
The Writes Out/Sec value should be 0 most of the time. A value that stays above
0 for an extended period indicates a hard disk write problem.
TIP
What is hard drive fragmentation?
It means that many or most of the files are stored in chunks scattered all over the hard
drive, instead of being stored together. Fortunately, Mac Pro's files do not easily get frag-
mented. This is probably why your Mac Pro does not come with a disk optimization utility
to fix fragmentation. Fragmentation can happen, however, so to fix it you need a program
such as iDefrag from Coriolis Systems (
www.coriolis-systems.com
)
, which costs $30.95,
but there is a demo version that will defragment up to 100MB.
