TIP
What is a device driver?
A device driver is a small software program that acts as an intermediary between an oper-
ating system and a device. This means that the operating system does not need to know
the specific commands that make a device perform particular operations. Instead, the op-
erating system tells the device driver what action it wants to perform — such as displaying
something on the monitor or printing a document — and the device driver translates that
instruction into a series of commands that the device understands. In the case of Boot
Camp, Windows requires device drivers that enable it to work successfully with the Mac
Pro graphics system, audio system, processor, memory, hard drive, networking, input/out-
put ports, and more.
