In-Depth Information
Step 1: Log In and Navigate to Availability
Log in to Enterprise Manager, and click the Availability tab, then pick Backup and Recovery, and then choose
Schedule Backup. At this point you may be prompted for a privileged user. Normally this is the sys user or a similar
user that has sysdba privileges or sysbackup (new in Oracle Database 12c) privileges. Enter the proper username and
password for your target database. At this point you should see a screen similar to Figure 19-1 .
Figure 19-1. Schedule backups
At this point you also need to enter Host Credentials. This is usually an operating system user and password that
has privileges on the target database. In Linux/Unix environments this is usually the oracle OS account (the account
used to install the Oracle binaries). If you don't enter a valid credentialed user, an error message will be displayed and
you won't be allowed to perform any backup and recovery tasks. After you have set up a credentialed user, you should
be able to click on either the Schedule Oracle-Suggested Backup or the Schedule Customized Backup link. In this
example we click on Schedule Customized Backup.
Step 2: Schedule a Customized Backup
You should now see a screen similar to Figure 19-2 . We use default settings for this example and then click on the
Next button.
