power must be found. This also increases the permissible harmonic currents.
However, in most cases this solution needs new, expensive transmission lines.
Harmonics can be also eliminated with harmonic suppressors or highly pulsed
pulse width modulated inverters. Voltage fluctuations and flickers can be
reduced by a regulation of the power flow. Therefore, wind generators with
variable-speed or asynchronous generators with variable slip are
advantageous, as described above. Short-term storage systems, which can
buffer high power fluctuations, can provide further improvements (Carstens
and Stiebler, 1997). Battery storage systems, flywheel storage systems, high-
power capacitors or superconducting coils can therefore be used.
