In-Depth Information
Set Options Before You Begin
Press CTRL - SHIFT - O to access Options. When you import a
graphic, whether in your own work or in the example content
provided for you, you'll want to maintain its layer name. The
Imported Layers drop-down list on the General tab should be
set to Maintain Imported Layers Names; if you don't do this,
organizing elements and finding them can ruin your website
composition. Click OK to exit the Options box.
Plan a Website's Topology
Unless you intend to post a single web page—as a brochure or
a Coming Soon placeholder for a future elaborate site—it's best
to plan on how many pages you're going to post before adding
anything to the index page, your top page.
Web pages are made up of a lot of graphical and text
elements, so after you make them, you'll be wise to organize
them for easy import to the web document. Bang Shang A
Lang's website in this example will consist of a top page and
three linking pages
N
The Tour Map
This page features a large graphic of
the world, with interactive buttons that viewers can click
on to pop up a map, directions, and concert dates.
The Gallery
N
A page that shows thumbnails of the
group's members. On this page you can learn how to
make thumbnails pop up to display full-size photos.
The Video page
N
A page dedicated to music videos the
boys have posted on YouTube.
When you build a website, you don't have to work linearly,
designing the index and then the next page and so on. You can
leave a page blank and simply name it. By doing this, you now
have targets for links you create on the index page. To get you
into generating HTML code Xara Xtreme-style—without taking
a break for hours to draw shapes—the bare-bones content of
these three pages has been provided for you. In the following
steps, you'll add these three pages to your index page… so you
can then get right down to layout and linking:
1.
Open the Designs Gallery to the resource folder you
added to it earlier.
Drag the Link pages.xar file into the current index page.
2.
