Game Character Development
This section is most applicable to designers (game designers, AI
designers, combat designers), writers/narrative designers, artists
(concept artists, character modelers, texture artists), and animat-
ors (riggers, animators, mocap/perfcap directors).
Characters are a requirement for any story, and so it follows that they are
also a necessity for any game that includes a narrative. The quality of a
game's characters will have a direct impact on the potential strength of its
storytelling.
Conceptualization, design, and implementation of every character in a
game involve a number of team members, working across disciplines. The
process can vary wildly depending on the target platform (e.g. smartphone
versus console versus high-end gaming PC) and type of game (e.g. simple
platformer versus robust RPG). It often includes team members working in
