In-Depth Information
Day sheet. This lightweight sheet is designed to protect a horse from dust, flies, and
drafts without adding substantial warmth. Day sheets might be made of linen or cotton,
which will shrink, or synthetic fabrics, which won't shrink. Always check fiber content and
the manufacturer's size recommendation so you can purchase the correct size. Some day
sheets make suitable liners under winter blankets.
Scrim. This lightweight nylon or cotton net cooler is draped over a stalled horse's body
to keep flies off without making him too hot. These are typically not the sturdiest of sheets,
and they don't fit as securely as a sheet (fewer straps and less fitted), so are often relegated
to day use only and to horses that don't do a lot of rolling or rubbing.
