Perfect for acting out medieval knight and damsel fantasies, this
refuge at Castell d'Alaró has staggering views. Yes, it's darn simple, but who cares with
this panorama and brilliant hiking trails on your doorstep. The dorm rooms are simply
fitted out with bunks (bring your sleeping bag).
You can get sandwiches and drinks in the bar, open from 9am to 11pm. Breakfast costs
an extra €4, dinner €10.

This family-run establishment has an ideal location overlooking the square. Rooms are
spacious and light-filled with modern wooden beams, if ever-so-slightly soulless. It's
well-priced, however, by Mallorcan standards.

A fine country residence, Alqueria Blanca
slumbers in grounds shaded by olive and pine, with a pool overlooking the valley. Its six
rooms occupy the oldest buildings, which once formed an Arab
alquería
(Muslim-era
farmstead). They echo their past with high ceilings, beams and barley-twist bedsteads. A
whimsical Modernista building was added in 1906 (now the breakfast room).
The hotel is about 2km west of Bunyola. If travelling north from Palma, the turn-off is
at Km 13.6; head 700m further down the trail.

On its romantic perch above Orient's
tightly packed lanes, this country hotel slumbers among apple orchards. Rooms are tradi-
tional without sliding into twee, with terracotta floor tiles, timber furnishings and (in
some cases) exposed beams. Home-grown fruit, veggies and olive oil go into meals
served in the highly regarded restaurant. The restful pool has beautiful mountain views.
