WINES OF THE INTERIOR
Mallorca has been popping a cork on its own wines since Roman times. The is-
land's vine-cloaked interior has two recognised wine-growing regions that have
met the exacting standards of quality control known as DO (Denominación de Ori-
gen).
The smaller of the two, Binissalem doesn't extend much beyond the village of the
same name. The much larger Pla i Llevant DO region covers almost the entire east-
ern half of the island. Around half of the reds produced in these DO regions come
from the local Manto Negro grape, while around two-thirds of the whites come
from the Moll grape variety.
