Around Inca
A scattering of towns and hamlets riding up into the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana
invites gentle touring.
Lloseta & Around
Perfectly poised between the foothills of the Tramuntana and the open country of the in-
terior, Lloseta is a sweet, ochre-hued town, with one of the top wineries on the island. It's
at its photogenic best from late January to early March, when the almond trees burst into
puffballs of pinkish white blossom. In early June it stages a fair in Plaça d'Espanya with
local shoe manufacturers.
At Celler Ca'n Carrossa ( 971 51 40 23; Carrer Nou 28; 5-course tasting menus €25;
1-3.30pm & 7-11pm Tue-Sun) , sit inside by the exposed stone walls or opt for the garden at
this converted 18th-century house. What's on the five-course tasting menu depends on
the whim of the chef, Joan Abrines, but the food is superb. Despite residing inland, its
fish dishes are especially regarded.
About 1.5km west of Lloseta on the road to Alaró is the German-owned and prize-
winning Bodegas Castell Miquel ( 971 51 06 98; www.castellmiquel.com ; Carretera Alaró-
Lloseta Km 8.7; wine tastings €5, 2hr winery tours & tastings €15; noon-7pm Mon-Fri Apr-Oct,
shorter hours rest of year) . You can't miss the place - it looks like a little white castle.
Besides wines like the 'Stairway to Heaven' rosé and 'Pearls of an Angel' cava (spark-
ling wine), the German pharmaceutical professor who runs it, Dr Michael Popp, has also
developed a red-wine pill, Resveroxan, that supposedly contributes to a longer and
healthier life. Tours and tastings should be booked ahead.
