(1) Shanghai,
take the fast train to
(2) Hangzhou
for several days'
sightseeing around stunning West Lake, taking in Lingyin Temple and some of
the fantastic restaurants in town. Check into a hotel near West Lake to amplify
the charms of the area. From Hangzhou, grab a bus to
(3) Wuzhen,
a charm-
ing canal town in Zhejiang, where you can also spend the night. Returning to
Hangzhou, jump on a bus to
(4) Tunxi
en route to the stunning mountain pan-
oramas of
(5) Huangshan,
China's fabled mountain of mists and photogenic
pine trees. Aim to spend a night on the mountain so you can catch the famous
sunrise from the peak and descend the next morning. After clambering down
Huangshan, return to terra firma to explore the surrounding
(6) Hui villages
around Tunxi, including Hongcun and Xidi, where you can also spend the night
