After seeing the sights of
(1) Luoyang
- detailed in the first itinerary - head
north into Shanxi province to spend a few days in the delightful walled town of
(2) Pingyao
. Journey out to some of the sights beyond Pingyao, but spend
most of your time enjoying the age-old textures of the ancient city walls and
low-rise architecture. Then make your way north again to the Buddhist moun-
tain fastness of
(3) Wutai Shan
, but don't attempt this in winter. In summer,
