In-Depth Information
All those names and statistics may seem a little overwhelming, but don't worry too
much about their details. The main thing is to make sure that, whatever security system
you implement in the setup for your WAP or wireless router, you use those same settings
when setting up a computer to connect to it.
EXERCISE 3.9
Explore Wireless Security
1.
If you have a wireless router or access point, open its confi guration page in your web
browser as you did in Exercise 3.7. It may already be open from that exercise.
2.
Find the Security settings, where you choose the security mode (WEP, WPA, or
Disabled/None). The exact arrangement of the settings depends on the make and model
of the device. The following graphic shows one example. Don't change the current
setting.
3.
Find the Channel And SSID settings. Note the current wireless channel in use and the
current SSID.
