The MESHMERGE command
The
MESHMERGE
command (no alias) joins contiguous faces into one. The command
just prompts for face selection:

The
MESHCOLLAPSE
command (no alias) merges vertices from selected faces or
edges. The command just prompts for the selection of one mesh face or mesh edge:
