IN THE VINEYARD:
→ Mow weeds, cover crop, or ground cover between the rows.
→ Continue to monitor for pests like spider mites, leafhoppers, sharpshooters, and
grasshoppers. Treat if needed.
→ If rain starts after veraison, look for early signs of bunch rot.
→ Third year and beyond: Remove laterals and suckers.
→ Third year and beyond: Continue to trim shoots above the top positioning wires.
→ Third year and beyond: Continue to thin leaves around the fruiting zone.
→ Begin to test Brix with the refractometer.
FALL
VINE STATUS:
Shoot growth slows. / Grapes ripen. / Period of root growth begins.
IN THE VINEYARD:
→ Continue to test Brix with the refractometer.
→ Test grapes for pH.
→ Be extra vigilant looking for animal pests like raccoons, foxes, and rabbits; they
are attracted to ripe grapes.
→ Put up netting for grapes.
→ Harvest grapes.
→ Give vines a deep watering after harvest, then stop watering.
→ Put grape pomace into the compost pile unless grapes have mealybugs.
