In-Depth Information
After harvest, the green leaves continue to photosynthesize. Leaf fall is stimulated by
frost or water stress. After leaf fall, the vine is dormant during the winter months. Sugars
are converted to starch and stored in the trunk and roots.
Just before bud burst, the developing nodes or buds push out from the cane in
response to rising temperatures.
