Data repository for business intelligence
Business intelligence repositories 7 also take advantage
of the MDM to obtain, reliably, at the same time not
only the reference and master data but also the up-to-
date values of the transactional data duplicated in the
different silos.
1.3.3. Data exchanged with third parties
The data exchanged outside an IT system needs to have
an infallible traceability. In the case of legal issues arising
over the quality of data exchanged with third parties, one
must be able to find evidence that the data have been sent.
This traceability cannot only be satisfied by technical data
logging because the data is interlinked, changes value over
time, can be subject to different initializations depending on
the third party, or be subject to version management, etc. A
data repository applied to data exchanges is needed,
identical to the one already described for data duplication,
associated with governance functions enabling all of the data
exchange to be consulted, in a secure manner. In other
words, this is an MDM system and each data flow exchanged
with third parties is also managed as master data.
1.4. Searching for data quality
Even though data quality projects have been around for a
number of years in companies, the quality of information
remains patchy. Even worse, the tendency is for that quality
to be in decline.
7 . Datawarehouse, Datamart. It can also be an Operational Data Store
(ODS). An ODS is a consolidation data repository, situated between the
Datawarehouse/Datamart systems and the production systems.
