8.2.1.1. Semantic aspect
Definition: semantic aspect
The semantic aspect is focused on the modeling of
information that describes the core of the company
business; i.e. in a manner which is independent of its
organization (workflows, permissions) and technical
side. The modeling of the business objects' lifecycles is
also present. Consequently, the semantic aspect does
not describe the knowledge in a uniquely static
manner; it also integrates a dynamic representation, in
the form of the lifecycle of business objects.
With regards to the MDM system, the semantic aspect
tackles the modeling of reference and master data, in the
form of business objects. The lifecycles of these objects are
modeled with the help of states machines. Two types of
operations can be distinguished:
