Institute, a non-profit making institution, in the spirit of an

The Praxeme method covers a large spectrum of modeling
procedures for the expression of requirements and the design
of Information Systems and IT systems. With regard to an
MDM system, we use a subset of these procedures,
completing and making clear their specific benefits for the
management of reference and master data.
Our last topic, Sustainable IT Architecture: the progressive
way of overhauling Information Systems with SOA [BON 07],
describes how the method is employed in a complete manner,
beyond the reference and master data, and in particular for
the progressive overhaul of IT systems based on Service
Oriented Architecture (SOA).
Figure 8.1 presents a model of the “Enterprise System
Topology” 4 which is formulated in UML language. The
dotted arrows express the dependency links between
“packages”. Each package corresponds to an “aspect” of the
IS topology, that is to say a point of view of the Information
System.
The sections below present the modeling procedures
applied to the MDM system, expressed in terms of the
Praxeme method. In the MDA standard of the OMG, the
upstream models (semantic, pragmatic and geographical) as
well as the logical model are in the Platform Independent
Model (PIM), i.e. independent of IT tools and infrastructure.
The software model corresponds to the Platform Specific
Model (PSM); it is dependent on the technical solution.

this topology.
