In-Depth Information
queries the MDM system to retrieve the discount rate for a
given date, in the future if it is for a price simulation or in
the past if it relates to a historical price calculation.
It is at the time of data modeling that the decisions
relating to the structure of the periods of validity must be
made. They constitute, in themselves, master data that has
to be administered by the MDM system. Consequently, if the
discount rate is associated with four periods which relate to
quarters of the year, the MDM system should automatically
suggest a user interface that takes into account the four
fields allowing the capture of the discount rate by quarter.
As with each data element administered by the MDM
system, this rate can be updated differently according to the
versions of the data repository and the use contexts in each
version. In this way it is possible, for example, to enter
interest rates by quarter depending on the context of
partner, subsidiary, geographical sectors, etc.
6.6. Data validation rules
At the time of data entry, the MDM system checks the
validity of the updates. To do this, it executes data validation
rules which were specified at the time of data modeling.
These rules are independent of organizational issues, that is
to say the permission management and data approval
processes (for these functions, see later in this chapter).
It is necessary to distinguish three levels of data
validation rules: facets, integrity constraints and business
rules.
The more that these rules are specified in the data model
the more a Model-driven MDM system is able to
automatically take them into account which limits the
bespoke developments outside the MDM system.
