There are plenty, and I mean a multitude of cheap hostels lining Montañita's waterfront,
and even during peak season, one of them is bound to have a vacancy. But if you're look-
ing for the rounded social hostel experience, look no further than Tikilimbo, that essential
backpacker beach hostel to suit the essential backpacker beach town of Montañita. To
start, they have a restaurant, surf school, tattoo parlor, clothing shop, bar and tour desk.
It's the chillest hostel in town, dude.
Casa del Sol
La Punta overlook, a 10-minute walk north from the town center on the beach

Casa del Sol is most popular for having the only yoga studio in town, and for hosting yoga
retreats: people travel from all over the world to practice their asanas in Casa's bamboo
oceanview studio. Their tiki bar deck encircled by the organic garden is a highlight.
Samai Ocean Lodge & Spa
Loma San Jose in Olón, north of Montañita on the Spondylus Route

Samai makes use of natural materials look so elegant, and their resort in Olón is rich with
sheen balsa wood constructions and sustainable but stylish decor. Even the spa is made of
bamboo. The terraced Jacuzzi with a wraparound view of the encircling forest canopy is
reason enough to reserve. Rates (which are shockingly affordable) include breakfast with
fruit from their orchards, access to the swimming pool and Jacuzzi.
Puerto López
Puerto López is a slow oceanside fishing village that's become a favorite among travelers
looking for an affordable, non-touristy escape on Ruta del Sol, but with character. Either
an underrated gem or a well-kept secret, Puerto López is that kind of place you find hard
