Tue-Sun May-Sep, to 4pm Apr & Oct) This chateau was the seat of the Dietrichstein family
from 1575 to 1945, and played an important role in the 19th century, hosting on separ-
ate occasions French Emperor Napoleon, Russia's Tsar Alexander and Prussia's King
Frederick. Much of the castle was destroyed by German forces in February 1945: the
lavish interiors are the result of a painstaking reconstruction.
The castle is accessible by guided tour only. The full history tour takes two hours
and visits significant castle rooms as well as exhibitions on viticulture and archae-
ology. Three more-specialised shorter tours are also available.

JEWISH QUARTER
(Husova) Mikulov was a leading centre of Moravian Jewish culture for several centur-
ies until WWII. The former synagogue OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP (Synagóga;
519 510 255; Husova 11; 1-5pm Tue-Sun 15 May-30 Sep) has a small exhibition on the
Jews of Mikulov. It was under reconstruction during our visit in 2012, but was expec-
ted to reopen in 2013. The evocative Jewish Cemetery OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE

9am-5pm Mon-Fri Jul-Aug)
is a 10-minute walk from the tourist information office.
