Three lovely baroque buildings on
the Old Town Square have been converted into a luxury hotel with large, well-appoin-
ted rooms filled with heavy antique furniture and rugs, paintings, wooden floors and
chandeliers. Some have the additional charm of painted wooden-beamed ceilings. The
most luxurious rooms are in the 'Apostolic Residence' at No 25, which also boasts a
magnificent attic apartment (sleeps up to five) with spiral staircase and massive tim-
ber beams. The unique selling point, though, is its location - you can hang out your
window and watch the Astronomical Clock do its thing.

Cosy and centrally located, 'At the Little Bear' is a traditional
commodation. The rooms have polished hardwood floors and dark wooden furniture,
with good-sized bathrooms (and good water pressure in the showers). Some of the
1st-floor rooms have Renaissance painted wooden ceilings, and a few are almost big
enough to be called a suite (the 'historic' rooms, which have a bit of character, cost
10% more than the ordinary ones).

Designed by London-based Czech architect Eva Jiřičná, the Josef is
one of Prague's most stylish contemporary hotels. The minimalist theme that is evid-
ent in the stark, white lobby with its glass spiral staircase is continued in the bed-
rooms, where things are kept clean and simple with plenty of subtle neutral tones. The
glass-walled en suites are especially attractive, boasting extra-large rainfall shower
heads and glass bowl basins.
