Set in a quiet corner of Malá Strana, amid embassies and monastery gar-
dens, the Sax is refreshingly different. The building is 18th-century on the outside, but
the interior has been remodelled with classic furniture and design from the 1950s,
'60s and '70s. There's a dramatic glass-roofed atrium where the courtyard used to be;
bold and colourful retro decor; stylish, uncluttered bedrooms and impeccable service.

little 'House at the Big Boot' is on a quiet square opposite the German embassy, just
five minutes' walk from the castle, and the same from Charles Bridge. The warren of
ancient rooms is furnished in an understated and elegant way, with a period atmo-
sphere - for families, there are two neighbouring doubles that share a bathroom - and
the owners are unfailingly helpful.
