ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE: THE CHACO
VILLAMONTES
By train Thetrainstationistwoblocksnorthofthebusterminalonthesamestreet.Thereare
weekly trains to Yacuiba (Fri 5.03am; 2hr 50min) and Santa Cruz (Fri 7.48pm; 13hr 25min).

By bus The centre of Villamontes is the broad Plaza 6 de Agosto, from where the town's
mainstreet,AvMendez,runsnortheightblockstothesmallbusterminal,whereseveraldaily
buses to Tarija (10-12hr) and Santa Cruz (8-12hr) arrive and depart.
By micro/trufi Micros and trufis to Yacuiba (1hr 30min) arrive at and depart from Av Men-
dez, three blocks north of the plaza.
YACUIBA
By train The train station is two blocks south and a block west of the main plaza. There is a
weekly train north to Santa Cruz (Fri 5pm; 16hr 25min) via Villamontes (2hr 50min). Check

By bus The bus terminal, from where there are morning and evening departures to Tarija
(10-12hr) and Santa Cruz (10-14hr), lies about 1km south of the plaza. There are also buses
(15hr) for the Paraguayan capital Asunción.
By micro/trufi Microsandtrufis(1hr30min)toandfromVillamontes arriveanddepartfrom
outside the offices just off the plaza on the road to the bus terminal.
CROSSING THE ARGENTINE BORDER
By taxi The border crossing with Argentina is at Pocitos, 4km south of Yacuiba: to get there,
take a collective taxi from the main plaza.
