is now sadly run-down, though it still preserves a certain charm and is lively at weekends.
Bolivia's national cocktail, the

Junín.
Although the dining room still features Middle Eastern paintings,
the odd Islamic plaque and heavy gilt mirrors, there's barely a trace of the Arabian peninsula
on the menu. Still it's a friendly place with a good-value set lunch (Bs13) and live music on
weekends.

with good coffee, juices and snacks, giving way to beers and spirits in the evening. Snacks

A convenient restaurant near the bus terminal, specializing
in pork dishes like
lechón
(roast pork) and
chicharrón
(deep-fried pork) and
charque
(dried
llama meat, similar to jerky), all accompanied by
wa'tya
(potatoes cooked in a traditional

This Hare Krishna-run vegetarian restaurant is decorated with paintings of
Hindu gods, and classical Indian music plays gently in the background. The short menu fea-
tures a few Indian dishes like samosas (Bs6), plus pastas, pizzas, soya burgers and fresh
juices. Set lunches Bs10-16. Closed Sun.

Oruro's best restaurant serves vast portions of tasty dishes
like roast lamb, fresh
pejerry
(kingfish) and
surubi
(catfish), and a mixed grill known as
“
El Intendente
” (Bs80) after the visiting government official who devised it. The
criadillos
(Bs50) - prairie oysters (bull's testicles) - are not for the faint-hearted. Mains Bs35-80.

Suigeneris

This hip, low-lit joint is a good spot day or night. Earlier on it
brews a fine cup of coffee (Bs6-15), and offers a predominantly fast-food menu. Later on
local bands and musicians frequently take to the small stage at the front.
