INFORMATION
Tourist information There are information offices at the bus station (daily 24hr), opposite
the train station (Sat & Sun 8am-noon & 2.30-6pm) and in the old theatre on Plaza 10 de
Febrero (Mon-Fri 8am-noon & 2.30-6pm; 02 5250144); opening times at each should be
taken with a pinch of salt.
ACCOMMODATION
There's a decent range of places to stay, though everything fills up during Carnaval (in late
Feb or early March), when prices go up by as much as five times, and most places only rent
rooms for a minimum of three nights. It's best to book well in advance, though even if you
arrive the day before you should be able to find a place to sleep in a private home - ask at
one of the tourist offices.
Flores Plaza Hotel Av A. Mier 735 02 5252561, floresplazahotel.com . This modern
hotel overlooking the main plaza couldn't be more central. The rooms are clean and function-
al: all have en-suite bathrooms and TVs; those at the top also have great views. There's also
a restaurant, bar and disco. Breakfast included. Bs290
Gran Sucre Hotel Sucre 510 02 5276800, hotebol.com.bo . Characterful hotel harking
back to Oruro's heyday, with elegant wood-panelled corridors and a glass-roofed ballroom
(where the included breakfast is now served). The rooms are co sy wi th floral furnishings,
private bathrooms, TVs and phones. There's also an internet café. Bs310
Hotel Bernal Av Brasil 701, opposite the bus terminal 02 5279468. Rooms are dilapidated
but good value, with abundant hot water in the private or shared baths; choose o ne of the
quieter ones at the back. There's internet access and helpful, English-speaking staff. Bs70

but gloomy place offering decent carpeted rooms with private baths and s lightly claustro-
phobic ones without; both types have TVs and rates include breakfast. Bs140

now crumbling and rather rundown. The renovated rooms, however, overlook a sunny court-
yard, and have comfortable beds, private bathrooms an d TV s; there are also some consider-

this hotel is slowly going to seed but remains convenient if you're just overnighting i n Oru ro.
The rooms have heaters and TV, and there's a so-so restaurant (breakfast included). Bs250
