indicated in the panel, the cursor turning into a frame
number as though you played back an animation. When it
is finished, all of the buttons in the cache panel go gray,
and the Bake button turns into a Free Bake button. Using
Alt-A for 3D view playback (or animation rendering) will
show the baked simulation. Because it is baked, you can
even quit Blender, then return to it later with the simula-
tion result intact. Bake, then use Alt-A to see the result in
the 3D view. There's your shear simulation, ready to go!
Soft Bodies, or Bouncy, Squishy Things
The soft body simulator can work on entire objects, like a
pile of gelatin struck with a spoon, or only on select parts
to give nice secondary motion to things like flab, eye stalks,
or, in our case, flowers.
