5. Anne Frank House
It is a museum that in itself is a story. The Anne Frank House sits in the very same building
where Anne Frank, her family, and several others hid during WWII. Anne Frank's diary
has become a critical piece of writing from the Holocaust, with the simple observations and
words of a teenage girl.
Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1929. Her family moved to Amsterdam as
signs of a new Nazi Germany began to emerge. In 1940, the Nazi's moved into the Nether-
lands and the family was forced to go into hiding in two rooms in the back of her father's
business.
It was in that apartment where the writings of a scared Jewish girl began to take shape. Two
years after going into hiding, the family was discovered and sent to concentration camps.
