business since 1992, this is a well-established company known for its horse-trekking
tours. It offers a wide range of fixed-departure trips, including popular horse treks in
Khentii and through Terelj, visiting Günjiin Süm. Also good for hiking and trekking in west-
ern Mongolia. The office is located in Khan Uul District, 600m south of the train station.
Has English- and German-speaking guides.
Rinky Dink Travel Mongolia ( 9965 2371, 9672 0227; www.rinkydinktravel.com ; PO
Box 1927) A shoestring outfit that has homestays in ger districts and takes you out of
Ulaanbaatar to meet nomad families. It is involved in social development programs in
poor neighbourhoods and invites tourists to volunteer for its projects. There is no actual
office - you just contact the company and someone will pick you up.
Stepperiders ( 9911 4245; www.stepperiders.mn ) A leader in horse-riding trips near
Ulaanbaatar. Runs its own camp with horses near Bogd Khan Uul.
Stone Horse ( 9592 1167; www.stonehorsemongolia.com ) Offers horse treks in the
Khan Khentii Mountains (trips start from just one hour out of Ulaanbaatar). Professional
outfit with quality horses and eco-conscious policies. Also offers reasonably priced
homestay opportunities with herders near Ulaanbaatar.
Tseren Tours ( 11-327 083, 9911 1832; www.tserentours.com ; Café Amsterdam,
Peace Ave) Dutch- and Mongolian-run outfit that does countrywide tours, biking trips and
stays with nomad families. Specialises in family-friendly tours. Good for budget travellers.
Tsolman Travel ( 9911 4913, 11-322 870; www.tsolmantravel.com ; btwn Peace Ave &
Seoul St) Established in 1993, this is one of the oldest private tour operators in Mongolia.
It runs a wide variety of trips at competitive rates and operates two ger camps, one in
Terelj and a second at Khögnö Khan Uul Nature Reserve.
Wind of Mongolia ( 9909 0593, 7602 6699; www.windofmongolia.mn ; Bayangol Dis-
trict, Bldg 10A, 11th fl, Apt 103) This French-run tour operator, located on the east side of
UB Palace, offers creative and offbeat trips, including rock climbing, kayaking and tours
that focus on Buddhism, archaeology and botany. Owner Joel Rauzy is perhaps best
known for his winter dog-sledding trips in Terelj and Khövsgöl. Call ahead before turning
up as there is not always someone there.
