On the main road, 12km south of Khatgal, you'll be required to pay the park entrance fee
at a gate to the national park. If there's no one there you can buy permits at the informa-
tion centre or from the ranger, who patrols the lakeside on horseback. With your permit
you should receive a visitors' pamphlet explaining how to limit your impact on the lake.
Hang onto the ticket as you may be asked to show it.
Information Centre

Located near the MS Guesthouse in Khatgal with a
large 'tourist information' sign, this centre has limited practical info, though this may
change. During the lifetime of this topic the building may also house an office of the
ministration and ger camp owners to ensure the sustainability of the national park.

Getting There & Away
HITCHING
For lifts from Mörön, hang around the market or the petrol station - and keep asking. In
Khatgal, most trucks will stop in front of the post office.
From Khatgal, hitching a ride to Jankhai or Toilogt shouldn't be difficult in the sum-
mer, but you'll probably end up paying a fair bit. Ask the guests at the camps for a lift.
Hitching around the eastern shore is much more difficult; you could wait for days for a
lift.
JEEP
Minivans and jeeps regularly make the trip between Mörön and Khatgal (one hour) for
T20,000 per person or T100,000 for the jeep. Enquire at the stand at the northern end and
eastern side of the market in Mörön and around the post office in Khatgal.
Transport also meets the Ulaanbaatar flight at Mörön airport to take passengers direc-
tly to Khatgal. Some jeep owners try to charge foreigners up to US$80 for the run; local
