This
long-time Khatgal camp is located on the main road heading north, just past the shops.
Though the main building is crying out for a coat of paint, it's a friendly place, with four-
bed gers and one ger with a double bed. The hot showers work well and the English-
speaking owner (Bayaraa) has kayaks for rent. Dinner costs T4500.

Compact ger camp in a fenced yard not far from
the petrol station. English not spoken, but it's run by a friendly family (ask for
Ulzinyam), there is hot water to be had and even slow, intermittent wi-fi for travellers
wielding wi-fi-enabled devices.

North of town, at the base of the hill, not far from the petrol station, this en-
vironmentally conscious backpacker hang-out is built from a reclaimed Soviet-era truck
garage. Choose between staying in a ger or a dorm with comfy bunks in the fireplace-
warmed lodge, and take some of the best food in Mongolia out onto the veranda. Kayaks,
horses and camping gear are available for hire and English is spoken.
Modot Bulan
This area extends due north of Khatgal, up the Egiin Gol mouth for about 6km. The road
up the coast bypasses this section, so take the road that curves right around the hill to get
here. If you're exploring the lake by foot, you can walk here and continue up the shore,
which is blissfully ger-camp-free for another 7km. The road is short but very rough.

up from the lake shore, this few-frills ger camp offers regimental rows of two- and three-
person gers, a sauna and a dining hall serving solid Mongolian standards.
