Ancient Art
Arkhangai aimag has deer stones and ancient Turkic monuments carved with runic script.
Some ancient monasteries survived Stalin's purge; the best is Erdene Zuu, with walls
built from the ruins of Karakorum.
Lakes & Mountains
There's marvellous scenery in the Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area. Or head west to
the Khangai Mountains to explore the Orkhon waterfall, the Great White Lake and the
remote Naiman Nuur.
Lakeside Rides
The Orkhon valley is great for horse trekking, especially from the Orkhon waterfall to
Naiman Nuur. Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur is also good, or closer to UB, try the forests north
of Terelj.
