COMPUTER EQUIPMENT
You can pick up memory sticks, an MP3 player, webcams, laptops, phones, tablets and more
for less than at home if you go for unglamorous Chinese brands such as Acer and Lenovo,
but be aware that there is little after-sales support. Pirated software , though a steal in more
ways than one, should be given a wide berth. The main area for electronic goodies is Zhong-
guancun in northwest Beijing, nicknamed “Silicon Alley” for its plethora of computer shops
and hightech businesses.
Buy Now Mall 百脑汇 , bǎinǎohuì 10 Chaoyangmenwai Dajie, opposite the Dongyue
Temple; Dongdaqiao subway (line 6); map . Convenient and orderly four-storey mall of
stores, and a good place to load up on cheap laptops, phones or tablets. You can barter, but
this isn't the Silk Market - you might get at most a quarter off. Daily 9am-8pm.
Hailong Electronics Market 海龙大厦 , hǎilóng dàshà 1 Zhongguancun Dajie; Zhong-
guancun subway (line 4); map . The biggest in the area, with six storeys, this is a veritable
bazaar, piled high with all manner of gadgetry. There is a little leeway for bargaining.
Mon-Sat 9am-6pm.
