Endnotes
1. The IGU commission was reconstituted in 2008 as 'Mountain Response
to Global Change'.
2. To become 'Mountain Geoecology and Sustainable Development'.
3. In the last several years there has been a growing and highly effective
response to fi lling this need. The International Centre for Integrated
Mountain Development (ICIMOD), with greatly augmented funding,
has been able to expand its research and coordination initiatives
(ICIMOD 2014, Ives et al. 2010). Under the leadership of The Mountain
Institute (West Virginia), with collaborating organizations, there has
been extensive geophysical research on Imja Lake and neighbouring
unstable lakes, with financial support from US AID and other
organizations (Byers et al. 2013, 2014, Fujita and Watanabe 2012, Lamsal
et al. 2011).
4. For much more detailed research on this topic see the following
publications: Watanabe et al., Byers, etc.
