In-Depth Information
Taxi
Taxis only make economic sense if you've got a group of four; additionally, taxi
drivers rarely speak English and know only major destinations. Still, they're your
only option after midnight.
Bicycle
Bicycles are good for getting around quieter neighbourhoods where traffic is thin-
ner; some guesthouses have bicycles to lend.
Boat
Tourist boats run up and down the Sumida-gawa; they're not cheap or efficient,
but the views are lovely.
Bus
In central Tokyo, the train beats the bus 9.9 times out of 10 for efficiency.
Car
Considering the traffic, convoluted city layout, exorbitant parking rates and effi-
ciency of the city's public transport, most Tokyoites don't even have drivers' li-
censes. We don't recommend driving here.
