This long-running independent cinema screens a mix of foreign and domestic art-
house films and documentaries, though naturally the subtitles are only in Japan-
ese. On Tuesdays, the first of the month and for the last show on Sunday evenings,
tickets are only ¥1000; flash an international student ID anytime and get in for
¥1000.

clubs up Love Hotel Hill. With its sheer size, this house draws bigger-name inter-
national and domestic acts. You'll encounter everything from J-Pop to indie here,
plus mini-festivals that can introduce curious audiophiles to a whole slew of new
bands and DJs.

Billed as a jazz house, this intimate, upscale venue, with room for 100, actually
boasts a more varied line-up, including pop, latin and even hip-hop. It's mostly
local acts, which accounts for the reasonable ticket prices. Bonus: it's in the swank
