Meguro Interior Shops Community
Tokyo's interior-design district, Meguro Interior Shops Community ( MISC; OFFLINE
MAP ; http://misc.co.jp/ ; Meguro-dōri; dJR Yamanote Line to Meguro, west exit) , has dozens of shops
stretched out along 3km of Meguro-dōri. Here you can buy modernist wonders, high
kitsch, antiques and everything in between. Even if you're not planning to buy anything
it's interesting to poke around and imagine what Tokyo's concrete box apartments
might look like on the inside. Note that many stores close on Wednesdays.

Almost everything in this enchanting shop is dyed a deep indigo blue. There are
some beautiful items, though unfortunately most aren't cheap. The shop looks like
a rural house, with worn wooden floorboards and whitewashed walls. Note: there's
no sign out the front, but look for the traditional building. ( 20-11 Sarugaku-chō,

Kamawanu specialises in tenugui (dyed rectangular cloths of thin cotton), which
can be used as tea towels, handkerchiefs or gift wrap (the list goes on; they're sur-
prisingly versatile). There are more than 200 different patterns available here with
