Gonpachi is a Tokyo institution, serving charcoal-grilled skewers plus tempura,
noodles etc. Cavernous by local standards, it looks like an Edo-era night market on
the inside and a feudal villa on the outside. (And if it looks vaguely familiar, that's
because the restaurant inspired the set for one of the epic fight scenes in the movie
Kill Bill).

Slide the wooden door open to find a cosy kitchen with bar seating and rows of or-

are the speciality here, from straight up divine (top grade beef) to ingeniously deli-
