Via del Corso is just under a mile long, and runs from a north-to-south direction. The
northern-most section of the road is restricted to pedestrians only, and connects several his-
torical points of interest in the city; including Porta del Popolo, the Piazza de Popolo, and
Piazza Venezia.
During the fifteenth century, the Corso was actually used as a racetrack for the rider-less
races that were run during the Roman Carnival. The races were named the “corsa dei
barberi,” which is of course where the road draws its name from.
Today, Via del Corso is a hive of activity for shopping opportunities, and is often the spot
where locals enjoy taking an evening stroll.
